The Human Condition Persists

We have a problem. By we, I mean most of us living in the Western World. We’ve been blessed with stability and prosperity.

By solving one problem, new ones emerge. The food insecurity and violence that our ancestors endured for the past 300,000 years is no longer top of mind for most of us. That’s great. But life is still far from perfect.

Depression and anxiety rates are through the roof. People report feeling unfulfilled and without purpose.

Granted, a far cry from the challenges of the past (or elsewhere in the world today), we now have the privilege of being bored. We see what we are missing out on every day on social media.

The 9-5 grind. The routine. The overwhelming feeling that there must be more to life. If this feels like you, keep reading.

How do I get a piece of that? I ask myself often.

Maybe you haven’t asked yourself that question for a long time, resigned to the societal prescription of mundane satisfaction.

But that is a recipe for living day after day, getting older, watching our options slowly diminish and never feeling like we really got to live.

This blog exists because we all deserve to feel inspired, to live with curiosity, to experience the unknown, to learn continuously, to make stories to share with others and to re-live in our old age. I’m here to urge you that some amount of that is accessible to us all.

But we need to make it happen. And for many of us, we need someone to believe that we can. To provide some light, external pressure, pushing us towards our dreams.

That’s why I started this blog. For normal people like you and me who are craving adventure. I want to be that person for you.

If you are:

  • Feeling bored with life.
  • Feeling satisfied with life, but you recognize that you’re getting older faster than you’d like and there is more that you want to do.
  • Worried that your current trajectory isn’t going to give you everything you want out of life.
  • Craving excitement, challenge, and novelty

Then my aim is for this blog to help you by:

  • Condensing information that I’ve learned along the way or that I’ve discovered in my research in one convenient location for you
  • Creating a community of like-minded people to share ideas with, ask questions from, and keep us motivated towards getting the most out of life. We are social beings - let’s make that work for us!

Here’s what you can expect from this blog

It’s an adventure blog. This is my definition of adventure in the context of this blog:

An adventure is any endeavour that involves an element of uncertainty, risk, or challenge.

Here are some examples:

  • Running a long distance to raise money for charity
  • Camping/hiking/backpacking/cycling etc. expeditions
  • Starting a business
  • Setting and completing a personal challenge

The point is to get out of routine. If any of these feel predictable or boring to you, is it no longer an adventure.

For example, camping in your backyard could be an adventure if you’ve never camped before. But if you start camping in your backyard every weekend, that is no longer an adventure because it has become too predictable, and it’s time to move up to camping in the forest.

I'll be writing about:

  • Personal adventure stories
  • Actionable adventure ideas, big and small
  • Tips for your adventures
  • Your recommendations - get in touch!

Who am I, anyway?

  • I’m a 27-year-old living in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, just a 4 hour drive from one of the most breathtaking mountain ranges in the world, the Canadian Rockies.
  • I’m an entrepreneur. I'm building the Fuel Better brand, where I help adventurers feel and fuel better. My current product is a true meal replacement bar.
  • I love camping and hiking, and hope to start doing multi-day backpacking trips next summer.
  • Dedicated to living a life of adventure, a life lived to the fullest, but in moderation (I have bills to pay).
