Backcountry food is bad.
I built something to fix that.
The Story
I took 10 Fuel Better Bars on a 2-day trip near Nordegg. No other food.
Day two had 20,000+ steps.
I only wanted 3 bars the entire second day. My hunger disappeared for hours. I was not expecting that.
I built these bars because I needed something that actually worked out there. Something calorie-dense enough to matter, nutritious enough to sustain a long day, and convenient enough to eat while on the go.
No stove. No extra water. No stopping for 15 minutes to rehydrate a meal I don't even like. No nasty and ineffective protein bars. No smushed peanut butter sandwiches.
That's the problem I was solving. And I think a lot of people in the backcountry have the same one.
By the way, I only had 4 bars remaining at the end of the experiment. Do the math, it might surprise you like it surprised me.
The Comparison
Here's the thing about freeze-dried meals.
They cost $20 each. They require a stove, extra water, and about 15 minutes of sitting around waiting. You can't eat them on the move. And most of them taste mediocre at best.
A Fuel Better Bar costs $9.
No prep time. Unwrap it and keep moving.
That's not a snack. That's breakfast, lunch, or dinner that fits in your pocket.
The comparison isn't Fuel Better vs. a Clif Bar. It's Fuel Better vs. the $20 freeze-dried meal you're packing right now.
What the VIP List Actually Is
Here's what you get when you join:
- 20% off your first order. Lands in your inbox the moment you sign up. Real discount, no hoops.
- Promotions that don't go anywhere else. Every 4–6 weeks I run a promotion. VIP List gets it first. Most of the time, it doesn't get advertised beyond this list.
- Behind-the-scenes updates. Fuel Better is a startup in a niche you care about. If you find that kind of story interesting to follow as it unfolds, this is where it happens. The honest version, not the highlight reel.
- A direct line. Hit reply to any email and it goes straight to my inbox. Not a support ticket. Not a bot. Me.
- A say in how this develops. I ask questions like "I'm reformulating the bar, what would you change?" or "Which name do you like better?" If you have an opinion, I actually want to hear it.
This is not a newsletter where I blast you with promotions and disappear. It's a list for people who want to stay close to what's being built and get the best deals when they come around.
Join the Fuel Better VIP List and get 20% off your first order.
No stove. No sitting, wasting time. No $20 freeze-dried meal you don't even enjoy. Just real fuel, on the move.
No spam. No selling your info to anyone. You can unsubscribe whenever you want. I won't make it weird.
